Meet Ship Mate Phillip Bethel

Jordan holds a Master of Science Degree in International Transportation Management and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Transportation with a minor in Port Security. He also holds an Associate Degree in Business Administration from the College of The Bahamas. With an ultimate goal in mind of becoming an Extra Unlimited Tonnage Master Mariner, Jordan has also achieved certifications in Chemical, Biological and Radio-logical Defense (CBRD), Company/Ship/Port Facility Security Officer (CSO/SSO/PFSO), Ship Brokerage/Chartering and Basic Dynamic Positioning.

Prior to launching Ship Mate Ltd, Jordan sailed as 2nd and 3rd officer on board liquefied natural gas and general bulk carrier vessels respectively. His sailing and training experiences have afforded him exposure in many countries all over the globe. Among his favorite training experiences were fast rescue boat training at IDESS in the Subic Bay, Philippines, and a paperless navigation and ECDIS course at Warsash Maritime Academy in South Hampton, UK.

Jordan lives by the line “And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by” which is taken from John Mansfield’s poem “Sea Fever. Although Mansfield may have meant the sentence figuratively, Jordan learnt from the creation and development of Ship Mate that one should always strive for what they believe in as limitations are a direct result of one’s hesitation.
